I Spy Friday

I spy with my little eye...
someone spying back at me, the cutest darn decals that I've ever seen, Goodwill goodness, and this wildly unique tile floor.

Pretty awesome inspiration today!  Makes me want to scour thrift stores for filing cabinets and tackle some DIY projects.  Instead our weekend will begin with Kam's last two soccer games for the season and the finale of the weekend will be his Cub Scout graduation ceremony.  Plus, I know in between he has tennis on the brain.  He got a new racket for his birthday (and we did, too) so he's eager to try it out.  A Kamtastic weekend ahead for us indeed!  Joe and I will most likely be busy taking turns chasing LuLu around as she explores her ever-expanding world.  She's always on the go and never sits still!

What are your plans for this weekend?
Ta ta for now.  See you back here on Monday!

My Favorite Things | Alchemy

A brown paper package tied up with string
this is one of my favorite things.

I follow i am alchemy and was inspired by her early morning meditation ritual.  I ordered the Live in the Moment formula which contains essential oils of sandalwood, geranium and French population lavender.  It is truly uplifting and smells simply divine!  I haven't been successful at incorporating meditation into my day quite yet so I've just been applying a dab throughout the day to lift my mood.  It does calm my mind and help me refocus.  I'll take any help I can get to live in the moment.

NINE YEARS

My first born turned nine years old today... whaaaaaa??!!!  How is it possible that life is so fleeting?  It was just yesterday that I met him it seems.  It has been a very fulfilling past nine years.

Kam,

You have opened my eyes to so much joy and awakened my heart to a whole new understanding of the world.  I am truly fortunate to be your mamma.  Always and forever....

We did a smaller get together last Saturday to celebrate with a ballgame and he brought along his best friend.  Spy themed with rear view sunglasses, mustaches, I mustaches you a question notepads, and invisible ink pens.  I decided to "make" a donut cake and Kam was so shocked when he saw it.  It was a complete success.

But cake aside... my one & only boy is 9 and I'm at a loss for words.  I feel like his last days of childhood are disappearing as I type this.  I've kept him shielded from so much other kids his age are dealt and yet it seems that I must let go of the reigns a bit to let him flourish.  He's becoming his own person and I'm in awe of his being and proud to be his mamma.  Today was bittersweet for me a lot more than past birthdays and I'm glad that we spent it at home together.  I'm glad that he was happy and had the birthday that he deserved.  It's quite overwhelming, but there will be others and I've just got to appreciate these moments while I can.  I'm off to kiss his cheek now while he rests....

18 MONTHS

Dearest Little Adventuress,

Mommy can barely imagine that you are a year and a half old already!  These have truly been the best months that we've shared together.  I can't believe God chose me as your mother.  I am so very blessed.

Here's a bit of what you've been up to lately:

  • You are sure on your feet now and can kick a ball and walk on your tiptoes...
  • But mostly you just run away from me every chance you get... it is so hard to keep up with you!!
  • You enjoy being outside most of all and like to take off exploring on your own (see above).
  • You love to point at EVERYTHING and have me "name" them for you.
  • Puzzles, puzzles, puzzles!  Practice has paid off and you've mastered most of them.
  • Books, book,s books!!!  You love to read and learn.
  • You love to climb up on chairs (here, here + here). You like to be up high and have no fear!
  • You like to have very tiny snacks throughout the day.  Just a few bites here and there.  I'm lucky if I get more in you.  But you are always too busy to stop to eat and...
  • You are still nursing All. The. Time.  There is no weaning in our near future.
  • Words galore!  You are always shocking us by saying a new word out of the blue.  You even said, "I DID IT!"  Being able to communicate with you more has brought us all so much joy.

You are a miracle bestowed upon us and bring so much light+loveliness into our lives.
Best. 18 months. Ever!

Mommy love you xxo

Monday Mantra

It's been too long since I've started the week on an intentional high note.  Oh well, I'm back at it today.  This week I want to cherish the small moments in my day and not let the whole day get ruined just because I hit a snag.  I'm going to be present.  I'm going to be grateful.  I'm going to find the good in every day.

The Duality of Me

Oh, my astrological debt... it plagues me.  There's a duality inside that I can never quite get a handle on and it's drives me crazy.  Don't worry, nothing serious.  Just normal inner turmoil happening here.  Christian contemporary by day.  Lana Del Rey by night.  Raffi from time to time just to even things out.  That's me.

Happy {belated} Earth Day!

I had every intention of having a lovely Earth day post full of photos from our festivities, but sadly instead we had a sick day.  Lu and I had a park play date planned with fun Earth day activities.  We had to cancel though, because Kam stayed home from school and before long Lu was feeling icky, too.  We enjoyed lunch out in the back yard at least.  It was a beautiful day, yet nothing went quite as I had hoped.  This too shall pass.  Next year, I think I'll take the initiative and celebrate the weekend before just in case.  Well, I'd still like to share these inspiring words from the DailyOM

Together on Earth
Seeing the Bigger Picture
by Madisyn Taylor

When we see a photo of our earth from space, it is hard to feel ourselves as being separate from all others.

Seeing an image of the planet Earth taken from space inspires awe in many of us, since we can clearly see the connectedness of all of us who live upon this planet. We have created imaginary boundaries, sectioning ourselves into countries and states, forgetting that in reality we are all living together, breathing the same air, drinking from the same water, eating food grown from the same earth. We share everything on this planet, whether we are conscious of it or not, with other people, and those people are our brothers and sisters. Keeping a photograph or painting of the planet Earth in a prominent place in our homes can be a positive way to remember our interconnectedness.

Meditating on the fact that any sense of separation we have from one another is truly an illusion, we will naturally begin to make more conscious choices in our daily lives. The simple act of preparing food, or determining how to dispose of our refuse, can be done with the consciousness that whatever we do will affect all our brothers and sisters, no matter how far away they live, as well as the planet herself. When we foster this kind of awareness in ourselves out of a feeling of awe, it becomes easier to be conscious than to fall back into old habits of thinking of ourselves as separate.

When we contemplate the earth in her wholeness, we attune ourselves to the truth of the bigger picture, which is the Earth, and all of us, every one of us, living on her body. We are connected to one another in the most intimate way, because we literally share our living space. As more people become aware of the reality of our interdependency, things will shift in a positive direction, and much of the discord that we see now will give way to a more cooperative, loving conscious. This is happening already, so as our consciousness grows, we can join with the many other minds working to live in the spirit of togetherness.

A terrific reminder of the bigger picture and our interconnectedness.  To celebrate the Earth I plan on taking the Earth Day challenge on The Kind Life.  I am going to start with #3 unplugging my wireless router every night (and anything else I can get away with ;) hubbee) and #4 save water.  I am guilty of leaving the water running while I brush my teeth and long showers (I think it's due to trying to drown out the noise outside the bathroom door... aka children).  But I will sacrifice for the planet. ;)  I'm already pretty good at #5 and #11, but there's always room for improvement.  And if there's time (with the littles) I'll try to squeeze in #13 and #14.  Any suggestions?

What are some of the ways you celebrated Earth Day?

APP Happy | Instagramification

With the new Walgreens app printing my favorite Instagram photos is as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Download the Walgreens app here.
2. Sign in and select the photos you want to print.
3. Pick up at your local Walgreens in under an hour.

Talk about instant gratification!

I just clipped mine to some ribbon and used these fabric covered thumbtacks to hang them on our chalkboard wall.  Now we have an interchangeable family wall to remind us of all the good times we share together.

Definitely a great app that makes me happy!

Tried & True | Amber Teething Necklace

Little Lu has been wearing her trusty amber teething necklace for nearly a whole year now.  I thought I'd share our success with you just in case you might be looking into this as an option.  I have been so pleased with our experience.  I truly feel that the amber teething necklace has eased all of her teething symptoms.  It's almost become a part of her as she wears it every day.  So, if you're looking for something to calm your child's teething irritability and pain, I say go for it!  For us it's tried and true.
