epitoME

A glimpse into my day through the lens. I am so fortunate for my iris transplants that originated from my Great Grandma Coleman. It even looks like she might have irises on her dress in this old photo.
I am always so amazed to think that Nature can create so many magnificent varieties of flowers in beautiful designs to lure bees and other insects in for some nectar. The iris's ornate details are mesmerizing and it appears to be glowing from within. Perfection.

Philosophy notes... yes, the teacher writes like this on the blackboard. An interesting technique to say the least.

Stuck behind a fertilizer truck on my long commute to school. I heart my new Cross Process app. Get it!

The old haircut(s) make me sad. A new haircut would make me happy!

Quintessentially Quirky

I know, I know... more Etsy wares. But this one was found on the Daily Candy so it was totally unintentional!!! I couldn't pass up sharing these delightful portraits that Nan Lawson will whip up for you if you send her a picture. She definitely puts a fresh spin on the ordinary portrait. I'm sure she could make anyone hip and attractive within her whimsical illustrations. Read more about her portraits here and check out her shop here. Enjoy!

Wouldn't a family portrait make a terrific Mother's Day present? I bet any mother would be pleased to get one of these. Nan Lawson's Etsy shop has prints, too! Cute and quirky and affordable - OH MY!!!

And then there was her rendition of Keep Calm and Carry On....

I must be drawn to her illustrations because of her use of grey and yellow together... love it!

Delightful Delineation

I was so pleased when I came across Silhouette Blue's shop on Etsy today. I am a sucker for personalized stationary and with all they have to offer I couldn't have asked for more. They even sell adorable personalized prints! I may just have to order something... now, how do I choose between all of these fabulous designs?

Serene Terrene II

Serene Terrene showcased my fondness for terrariums and air plants. So I was thrilled to see both during my stroll through Apartment Therapy today - bless their souls.

Grey Day

Another rainy, grey day which puts me in a perspective state of mind. My current blue walls are closing in on me and I'm beginning to reexamine my desire for grey or even white walls. Maybe a possible solution for me will be pale grey walls like those I admired in Alaina's home. Plus with all my yellow accents I think that will fulfill my yellow and grey cravings.
Silly me - but the name of the paint is a major component of picking out the right shade. These are two of the front runners.

Maybe I'll leave one accent blue wall for old times sake and to please the hubbee.

Bravo

My praises go out to Bravo and their new series, 9 by Design. Love, love, love it! It's such a joy to watch because it's the perfect eclectic mix of family, design, reality TV, and lifestyle. They make the most with their philosophy "you can bring charm to any four walls".  Their large and lovely family brings charm to chaos. Read more about it here and tune in Tuesday nights @ 9pm CT.

p.s. Notice the hexagons in the show's intro. I really like the theme song, too.

Such Great Heights

I have come to realize that once standards and expectations are set too high that the only way they go from there is down. And it won't likely be a moderate descent, but more of violent fall. I must continue to keep my priorities in check and hope on the horizon...

I happened upon this lovely photograph by the 10 cent designer thanks to Unruly Things. It makes me ache for my long hair and long for the ocean.

Spotless

Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.

Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.

Joel: Okay.

Clementine: [pauses] Okay.

Solitude and Me

expectations will hardly be met
especially when so high they are set
reminder to be wise of assumptions,
hopes, absolutes, or even intentions

relationships are more than their sum
or their parts for that may become
i falter at friendship when you're in error
because anything else wouldn't be fairer

known to be let down whatever the case
those are the facts that i will have to face
i'll continue to prosper without your approval
known in my heart is your impending removal

Unearth

Imogen's divine and honest song delves into Mother Earth's perspective on the damage being done to her by all of us. A great perspective to reflect upon and consider tonight in preparation for Earth Day tomorrow!

As Seen On

Today was a lucky day for me as far as my love of everything bees. Two of my favorite blogs led me to some of my favorite things. First, I saw the purl bee highlighted on Darling Dexter.

Love, love, love their colorful displays! It makes me want to take up knitting ASAP! Their clever logos with hexagons and hives had me at "Hello!"...

Then I was tempted by more hexagons over on For Me, For You

I think they are great, too! I am not ashamed to admit my love of post its and these would add spunk to my reminders! The other shapes are intriguing, too. Lots to inspire and desire tonight. On that 'note' (ha, ha) g'night.

Making Progress

I've been a busy, busy bee. Unpacking is hard work, but decorating is fun. All my artwork and decor is like new. I'm enjoying the process of making our home our hive sweet hive again. Originally I had hoped to repaint the downstairs in either possibly a yellow or grey but I'm starting to realize my priorities will have to change. While gazing at all the boxes in our living space I thought to myself, "might as well unpack and enjoy our home now". I mean, what's the rush anyway? And maybe those colors can go upstairs where white walls still yearn for color. Time will tell. This is some of what I've accomplished so far.

I hung my favorite pendant lamp. There's still so many beautiful, fun, and unique pieces of artwork to hang up. Right now these are grouped together to go up above the fireplace. I'm just waiting on a few more frames and some inspiration on placement.

I have a long way to go. We'll see what tomorrow brings...

And... we're back!

Take Two

Almost There

I know everyone is downright thrilled to have our yard again (especially Maybee of course)! We were blessed with amazing weather all weekend... if these days could just stay like this. I think we're all breathing a big sigh of relief to be back in our hive sweet hive

I love this picture that my son took of himself... he must get that from me. :)
