Seize the Day | Out from Behind the Lens

I'm always the one behind the camera lens capturing our family moments, but lately I've been thinking, "What about me?!?"  I really wanted some photos of me and Lucia while she was so tiny.  I came across this article, "Because You Were There, Too: Thirteen Tips for Family Self Portraits"  It gave me the extra motivation I needed to have our own mini photo shoot using the timer.  This is my favorite shot.

If you're in the same predicament, use the helpful tips from the article, and CARPE DIEM!

Many Hats

I love these doodles.  It's such a terrific idea to jot down all of the many hats that one wears.  I'll have to take the time to do the same soon.  Not today though, because the only hat I wore was my mommy hat {or more accurately my nursing hat} because Lucia was awake for most of the day.  That means she'll sleep most of the night, right?

Wish List

'Tis the season for giving..... and receiving.  I'm a giver at heart, but as far as receiving is concerned I wouldn't mind unwrapping any one of these lovelies that I've been coveting.

Wish List

Maybe one or more of these is even worthy of being added to your wish list.

Stuck Inside My Head

Ever since I posted about this Selby film last Friday, I've had the music from it lingering in my head. I searched and searched online to try to find out where the music came from, but had no luck. Then the other night I was watching TV and this Crayola commercial came on and my ears perked up... the same song!  What the heck?!

With this new source, I tried once again to find out online who's responsible for this song, but to no avail.  Feeling frustrated I gave up, but that captivating music remained a constant in the background of my mind.  Finally, I thought to Shazam it and and I got lucky... finally success! I love when that happens and everything comes together.  Here it is {drumroll please}

Dry Lips - Lightspeed Champion from small time inc. on Vimeo.

Looooove it!  And I've never heard of Lightspeed Champion before.  I'm really digging his sound. Another one of his songs, There's Nothing Underwater, is also in the Selby film.  I really prefer the instrumental versions, but haven't been able to find them yet.  Maybe someday.

Talking Turkey

I watched a fantastic episode of Nature called, "My Life as a Turkey".  Joe Hutto dedicates two years to raising a group of wild turkeys into adulthood.  This is a profound and poignant story that only strengthened my vegetarian beliefs.  I highly recommend you watch it... especially before Thanksgiving if you can.  Who knows, maybe you'll decide to forgo the turkey this year.  Here's a preview:

Something about this...

...Selby film for ZARA is mesmerizing.  After seeing it on Simple Lovely I couldn't help but watch it over and over again.  The music, the photography, and Lucy Chadwick (and of course Duffy... the general all-around Wonderboy) infuse your senses with a certain type of magic.  Love her accent, love how she simply floats through the scene, love her outlook on life... it kind of makes me want to embrace my own hippy side.  The whole film is just so lovely.  I think I'll watch it again...

Babies Don't Keep

Lucia Grayce - 6 days old

I thought I'd pop in real quick to share this touching poem that my mom sent to me...

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

- Ruth Hulbert Hamilton

Such a tender reminder to stay present in the moment and enjoy these fleeting days to their fullest.
